Tim Boles

 

Instructor Tim Boles won the All-State Theater Award in 1979. He was one of 20 students chosen from over 1,000 auditioned to perform the new Story Theater Technique at the Krannert Performing Arts Center at the University of Illinois. He has worked at Timberlake Playhouse and has performed workshops in the Sterling Community Schools. Mr. Boles is currently Artistic Director of the Canterbury Singers, a regional Choral Society devoted to the performance and promotion of English Choral Music.  

Robert Campbell

 

Dramatic tenor Robert Campbell has performed extensively throughout Northern Illinois and has had interests in solo performance, choral conducting, musical theater and teaching. Past experience includes seven years lead tenor with the Canterbury Singers as well as appearances at the American Choral Directors Association's National Convention in Milwaukee and the National Collegiate Choral Organization in San Antonio. His wide-ranging vocal repertoire includes works by Mozart, Quilter, Poulenc, Stravinsky, Vaughan Williams, Walton, and Berlioz, as well as selections from musical theater.

Mr. Campbell holds an Associates Degree in Fine Arts from Sauk Valley College as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Northern Illinois University. During his time at NIU he studied conducting with Dr. Eric Johnson and private voice with Myron Myers.

Mr. Campbell is experienced in working with the very young singer, whether in a private or group setting. In his teaching, he incorporates both the Dalcroze and Kodaly techniques.
 
Rachel Cocar

Rachel Cocar holds a Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in education and vocal/choral music from West Chester University in West Chester, PA.  She received her Master of Divinity degree from Duke University Divinity School in Durham, NC.  She has directed numerous children’s choirs and taught music in the public school system in the greater Philadelphia area.  She currently teaches music to children from pre-school age through grade 8 at St. Anne’s School in Dixon.  Professionally, Rachel has enjoyed singing with the Duke University Vespers Choir and currently with the Canterbury Singers.  She finds great joy in teaching and helping children experience music through movement and dance.  She has studied voice with Dr. Alan Wagner and conducting with Dr. David DeVenney and Dr. Linda Tedford.

Rachel is an ordained minister and co-pastors with her husband, Bunyan at First Baptist Church of Dixon.  She shares the pastoral role as well as overseeing many of the music ministries of the church.  She also stays busy with her two-year-old son, James.
 

Kathy Hann

 

Kathy Hann,  Director of VIVA Performing Arts School, holds her Bachelor's Degree in Performance from NIU, advanced studies in Early Music and Harpsichord from Converse College, Spartanburg, S.C. and is a Yamaha certified teacher. She has developed a successful, contemporary approach to teaching piano to both children and adults.  For over 25 years she has implemented her programs in private schools and performing arts centers throughout the states of South Carolina and Illinois.  

Viviane Hsiao

 

Viviane Hsiao holds a Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance from Universidade Estadual de Sao Paulo, Brazil and will receive her Master's degree in Piano Performance from NIU in May 2009. Ms. Hsiao's affection for teaching the very young led her to obtain a Montessori Teaching Certificate and an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education. She has been the winner of numerous piano competitions including the prestigious International Piano Competition and the International Chamber Music Competition in Curitiba and Sao Paulo, Brazil. In addition to teaching at VIVA Performing Arts School, she is a church musician and an assistant teacher at NIU instructing undergraduate music students.  
Susan Hurm Susan Hurm holds a Bachelor's Degree in applied piano from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point and a Master's Degree in piano performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Mrs. Hurm has obtained her Suzuki certification in piano and has taught Suzuki piano for the last eleven years. Mrs. Hurm also has extensive training in the Taubman method of piano technique having taken lessons in the method for the past twelve years. In addition to teaching at VIVA Performing Arts School, she teaches at the Community School of the Arts at Wheaton College, the Community School of the Arts at Northern Illinois University and maintains a private studio at her home in DeKalb.  
  Violist Hannah Lamm is a Northern Illinois native. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Northern Illinois University and is currently pursuing the Master of Music degree from NIU. She has studied viola with Anthony Devroye and Ann Monztka-Smelser, and chamber music with the Avalon Quartet. Mrs. Lamm performs symphonic and chamber music around the region with such groups as the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra and Camerata Chicago. She has had training in the Suzuki Violin Method with Edward Kreitman, Ann Montzka-Smelser, Joanne Melvin, and Linda Fiore, and loves working with students of all ages.  

Camila Meirelles

 

Camila Meirelles holds a Bachelor's Degree in Viola Performance from Universidade Estadual Paulista, Brazil and will recieve a Master's Degree in Viola Performance in May 2009. Her current studies are with Richard Young, violist of the internationally acclaimed Vermeer Quartet. She also holds a Suzuki Certification. Ms. Meirelles has performed extensively with both national and internationally acclaimed orchestras including the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, the Mozart Chamber Orchestra, the  Avon Women's Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sao Caetano Philharmonic Orchestra and the Rockford Symphony Orchestra. She was recently invited to participate as section leader in the Mato Grotto Symphony Orchestra. The project took place in 22 states throughout Brazil, performing 78 concerts, with the aim to musically reach the less advantaged, in which to build a higher awareness of classical music with the younger generation.  
Laura Sutton Laura Sutton has been a licensed Kindermusik educator since 2002. As the owner and operator of Kindermusik with Laura, she has reached the lives of hundreds of children with her gift of music, devotion to children and love of Kindermusik. She resides in LaMoille, Illinois with her husband, Barry, and two children: Brock and Gillian.

Laura holds an Associate of Business Degree with a legal major from the American Institute of Business and a paralegal degree from Illinois Central College. She has been a church organist and pianist since the age of 13 and currently is Director of Music at First United Methodist Church of Mendota.
